Course Expectations for English II

Classroom Expectations:
  • Be respectful to others and to yourself
  • Always put forth your best effort
  • Bring materials to class every day, without exception
  • Follow all school policies and procedures
Common Core anchor standards and high school grade-specific standards work in tandem to define college and career readiness expectations.  There are standards for reading literature and informational text; writing; speaking and listening; and language.

 English II is a state-tested course.  At the end of the semester, there will be an online English II End-of-Course exam which counts for 25% of a student's final grade in the course.

Grading:
  • Grammar  & Writing                                        15%
  • Vocabulary, Grammar, Targeted Writing:                              20 %
  • Quizzes:                                                                           25 %
  • Tests/Essays/Projects:                                                        40
Vocabulary:
Vocabulary is an important part of the English II curriculum.  Each week students will complete a vocabulary lesson which includes a lesson, a homework assignment, and a quiz.  The lessons build so that each week there are review words from other lessons on the quiz.
 
 
Reading
Many pieces will be covered in English II, from short informational pieces to longer works, to improve reading comprehension, knowledge of literary terms, and vocabulary knowledge.
 
Writing:
Writing is a consistent part of the English II curriculum.  Writing in this course will include creative writing,  essays,  literary analysis, and constructed response (End-of-course test preparation).
