Welcome to a new semester at EWHS.  Please read the items below very carefully, and share them with your parents.  If you have any questions, please feel free to discuss them with me in class, by phone (751-7120), or by email (  


1.)    You will write several papers in English this semester.  WRITING ASSIGNMENTS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE – NO EXCEPTIONS.  Please remember that computer problems or printer problems are not acceptable excuses for not turning in a paper on time.  If these situations arise, you should very neatly hand-write your paper in black ink (every other line, front side only).  If you avoid procrastination, these issues should not present a problem. If you are absent the day a paper is due, you can send it in with someone else, email it to me, or turn it in the day you return.  If you come on campus the day a paper is due, I expect it to be turned in to me on time, even if you miss my class that day.

2.)    Written assignments must be typed.  If you do not have access to a typewriter or a computer, please let me know so I can assist you in making arrangements at school.

3.)    Students are expected to be in class and on time for class everyday.  Attendance will be recorded daily.  For students who have perfect attendance both quarters, three percentage points will be added to your 2nd nine weeks grade in January/June.  Excused absences count as absences!!

4.)    Students are responsible for all books issued to them in this course.  If a book is lost, it will be the student’s responsibility to pay for it. Books are expensive!!

5.)    Two of my greatest pet peeves are sleeping during class and texting in class.  Please be forewarned that cell phones will be confiscated regardless of whether you are reading a message or sending a message. As far as sleeping in class, I will rouse you only once.  After this initial warning, I will require that you stay after school with me to make up the time you lost while you were resting. 

6.)    Students in standard classes will be afforded the opportunity to retake any test they do not do well on.  The retake must be taken within one week of the initial test administration, and must be taken after school.  

7.)    Extra credit is not available unless I announce something in class.  Please do not ask for extra credit.  I expect students to do the required work.  If that happens, extra credit should not be needed.

8.)    Students who do not turn in assignments on time (except writing assignments, which will not be accepted late) will have twenty points deducted per day.  After the third day, a late assignment becomes a zero.  Make up work should be completed per the county policy.
