 A Little About Me

Hello, my name is Tyrece Starkey. This semester I am teaching Math III. I’m excited to begin this semester teaching you and helping you in your efforts to learn math. You should know that learning math is a 2-way street—I work to help you and you also work (study and practice) to help you. Before I go any further I’d like to give you more information about me. I am a Kinston native, having finished my secondary education at Kinston High School. I earned a B.S. Degree in Mathematics Secondary Education from the illustrious North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T SU). In honor of my collegiate Alma Mater I want to live out the motto A.G.G.I.E. P.R.I.D.E.: Achieving Great Goals in Everything Producing Renowned Individuals Dedicated to Excellence. Upon commencement (graduation), I expect all my students to enter this competitive, challenging 21st century world ready to achieve great goals in everything and to be dedicated to excellence. Whether you decide to enter the workforce directly, enroll in a 2-year or 4-year college/university, or enlist in a branch of the military, you will have to work hard and persevere to be successful.

My Educational Philosophy

I am devoted to making my classroom a safe and challenging environment. I believe in engaging my students through the curriculum while getting to know them by interacting with them one-on-one. Meeting the needs of my students is a very crucial part of my classroom. I want them to be comfortable with the other students as well as me so that there can be meaningful learning through discussions and interactions. I encourage all students to participate in class so that they can learn from each other as well as from me. My goal is having an equitable classroom that promotes the learning, achievement, and growth of each and every student.

To the Parents/Guardians

I look forward to collaborating with you to ensure the success of your child. I want to maintain open communication with you about what your child will be learning and his/her progress toward mastering the content.  When I contact you about academic or behavioral issues, I hope you won't mind discussing these matters with me. During the first week of school I will send out a parental contact form. Please fill it out at your earliest convenience so that your child may return it to me. If you need to contact me, do so via my school phone 919-751-7120 or via email: tyrecestarkey@wcps.org.
