Jaliyah’s Book of the Month

By Ally Condie

In the Society, officials decide. Who you love. Where you work. When you die.

Cassia has always trusted their choices. It’s hardly any price to pay for a long life, the perfect job, the ideal mate. So when her best friend appears on the Matching screen, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is the one…until she sees another face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black. Now Cassia is faced with impossible choices: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she’s known and a path no one else has ever dared follow—between perfection and passion.

This is a really good book. I especially recommend it to any one who loves love triangles. It captures your attention to the very end and leaves you wanting more.

Moxie: A Novel by Jennifer Mathieu

Moxie is about a young feminist and activist, Vivian Carter. She’s a high school student in a small town in Texas where the biggest weekly event is the Friday night football game. Vivian is fed up with the sexism and harassment at her school. She takes notes from her former riot girl mother and creates a feminist zine. She anonymously distributes the zine throughout school. Other girls find inspiration in Viv’s words and start a revolution in their small town. Moxie is a captivating story of friendship and activism.
